"Evening of Hope – A Night of Lifesaving Fashion" @ the Metreon–PHOTOS

BY EVENTSEEKER STAFF

On Wednesday night the City View event space at the Metreon played host to an unusual HIV benefit. Called Evening of Hope–A Night of Lifesaving Fashion, it attracted San Franciscan revelers with a runway show that featured garments partially made of, er, condoms. The clothes in question turned out to be real designer pieces.

The participating designers were Cari Borja, Miranda Caroligne, Daniel & David Concepcion, Christina Cundari, Joseph Domingo, Lauren Domio, Ronnie Escalante, Cana Klebanoff, Jade May Li, Hector Manuel, Borris Powell, Sandra Raya, Ashton Miyako, Gail Shrive, Phetsamone Sinathalang, Amy Vutiya, Herbert Williamson, Angela Wolverton, and Alex Yip.

The evening started at 6 pm with a cocktail reception, followed by the event’s main program. Apart from the fashion show there was a live auction, where people could bid on packages that included tours and vacations, Armani gift cards, San Francisco Opera and Yoshi’s tickets, dinners at Samovar, and other good stuff. Hosting the show was Justin Vivian Bond, New York-based performance artist and activist.

A VIP after party also took place. Guests enjoyed music, cigars, tequila, port wine, and play in a photo station (courtesy of The Laugh Box). The “Condom Couture” was also on view–the models were showing off the designer pieces on special posing stations. Overall, the event raised over $200,000 (through the live auction, afterparty, sponsorships and generous donations). All funds raised will go to support Project Inform, a San Francisco nonprofit organization that helps HIV and hepatitis C patients.
