Our featured artist, Haim, is a true sister act featuring Este, Danielle and Alana Haim. What began as a San Fernando family cover band (Rockinhaim) has turned into a fresh trio of talent. After the eldest, Este, completed her Ethnomusicology degree at UCLA, the siblings collaborated in 2006 and solidified their soft rock-R&B sound with a retro undertone. The band soon recruited drummer Dash Hutton and opened for several luminaries, including Edward Sharpe and Ke$ha. After grabbing the industry’s attention at South by Southwest’s 2012 festival, they signed with Polydor records in the U.K. and released their first EP, “Forever.”
Since the release, Haim’s popularity has exploded in the U.K., and buzz in the U.S. isn’t far behind. The simplicity of “Better Off” and the catchy rattles of “Forever” have hype on the rise. They’ve even entranced the critics, and were the first female group to win the BBC Sound of 2013 award.
The sassy stardom doesn’t stop there; Haim has also made their way onto global catwalks for Charlotte Ronson’s New York Fashion Week show, and playlists for Germany’s Next Top Model. Impressed? We are too, and whether you’re strutting your style under high-profile spotlights or at least pretending to under the nearest streetlamp, we encourage you to tune into Haim. We can’t wait to catch them at the Treasure Island Musical Festival in just a few short months.
