This year was filled with huge ups and downs in the music industry. Pop stars made waves with their sometimes shocking live performances and music videos. We were bombarded with some of the most outrageous statements of the decade so far. In 2013 we saw the emergence of twerking as a popular media phenomenon, along with a ton of partial nudity in Top 10 music videos. While 2013 music has not been without controversy, our picks below can be almost undeniably dubbed real music – no gimmicks, no bells and whistles, and certainly no stunts – just great music.

Here are our picks for the best albums of 2013. If you follow our feed, you may have seen us post about our love for these bands incessantly throughout the year, but as 2013 comes to a close we feel the need to re-express how warm and fuzzy these albums made us throughout the year. If you haven’t already checked them out, make sure you don’t end 2013 without getting your fill of the best music of the year! 2013 did bring us some amazing talent, even if Miley did try to demolish them all with her wrecking ball.
