eventseeker’s photographer, Oscar Montes, hit the El Rey this week to capture Conway and St. Lucia‘s riveting performance.
Kassia Conway graced the stage with a booming voice and down-to-earth vibe, bringing more than her A-game to support St. Lucia. For fans of Sky Ferreira and Karen O, this superwoman knows how to command the audience and put her power pedal down. She made a splash when she released “Big Talk” that generated over 350k views within the first week, and immediately got picked up by NYLON. The same single made an appearance on GIRLS and even scored her a record deal with Columbia. Her full-length debut is still in the works, so stay on her tail.
The Brooklyn native, St. Lucia, brought a euphoric rush to El Rey. His wistful melodies and emotionally charged composition kept the audience on their toes. “Elevate” did exactly what its name invokes, and songs from his newest album, When the Night, pumped up his sea of followers. Jean-Philip Grobler, the man behind the 80’s-tinged funk, delivered genuine soul. Touring with Foster the People and hitting some festivals along the way, be sure to get your hands on tickets to see him this spring.
