The UK trip-hop group, London Grammar, made waves at the 9:30 Club with hazy pop openers, Haerts. Both groups serenaded the audience in ethereal vocals from female frontwomen. Haerts kept an upbeat tone with a synth-focused set, most prominent in crowd favorites “Wings” and “Hemiplegia.”
London Grammar then soothed the crowd into the night with more melancholy guitars and atmospheric electronics. Hannah Reid’s vocals wistfully drew the crowd out to another planet, with emotional fervor hollowing out every vowel. Dot Major and Dan Rothman morph guitars and synths to create a transfixing undertone, reminiscent of Portishead.
