It all started with a cereal box. As a kid, Harley Streten found a music production program in his usual breakfast staple that years later gave birth to his pseudo, Flume. Taking the name from a Bon Iver track and deriving musical inspiration from Flying Lotus, the young Sydney-sider tries to keep his influences diversified. Mixing atmospheric R&B with dance-infused electronica, Flume is sweeter than average your Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and his blend is infectious.
Maybe it’s his Australian charm or dapper under-the-radar style, but Streten is sharing his southern hemisphere talent with the rest of the globe these days. Touring the Parklife circuit and opening for Chet Faker allowed Flume to square himself off in the center of the music scene, beckoning Rolling Stone to label his LP as “scarily close to perfect.”*
After Future Classic picked him up in 2011, Flume’s self-titled debut album reached number one on Australia’s iTunes. Just a year later, Transgressive Records made the smart move to have him join their ranks with the Foals, Two Door Cinema Club and the Antlers. His singles “Sleepless” and “Holdin’ On” have proven to be solid chart toppers on Triple J Hottest 100, ARIA Singles Chart, and Fuse TV. He won ‘Best Live Act’ and ‘Best Album’ at the recent In the Mix awards, and continues to stack his shelf with trophies from around the world.
