FOODSEEKER: SF’s February Beer & Wine Events

BY LUCIA CHUNG

Wine and beer, here we come! Seeing as how February is also the month of Valentine’s Day, look forward to a separate list of events that are geared specifically towards that occasion next week. In the meantime, feast your senses on the fabulous beer and wine events that are quickly coming up.

Summer Down Under: The Wines of Australia & New Zealand 2012
General’s Residence @ Fort Mason Center
February 2, 6:30pm to 9:00pm

Get in from the cold with Uncorked’s tasting event for world-class wineries from Australia and New Zealand. Before you start thinking that this is something for pretentious wine aficionados, you might like to know that there will also be beer tasting stations sprinkled around the venue along with nibbles and bites from A.G. Ferrari (okay maybe that shop’s a bit fancy). High-end products notwithstanding, Uncorked’s founder, Don Davis (also owner of BIN 38), truly believes that wine tastings aren’t just for the hoity toity crowd–there will be a live DJ at the event playing classic pop hits from the Down Under for these party-happy wine-lovers. What’s more, group rate tickets for four or more start at just $35, which isn’t too bad at all.

Slow Food 8th Annual Golden Glass
Herbst Pavilion @ Fort Mason Center
February 4, 1pm to 5pm

Golden Glass 30 Second Spot from Farm + Cellar on Vimeo.

Slow Food is dedicated to the idea that food should be produced responsibly, and people are responding. In fact, Josh Viertel, the president of the company, was recently named one of America’s 50 Most Powerful People in Food for 2012 by The Daily Meal. At Slow Food’s annual SF fundraiser, the Golden Glass, they’ll be showcasing 100 international wineries and around 40 area restaurants that produce food and drink with this philosophy in mind. Meet winemakers and artisan food crafters to learn about the unique origins of their products. And of course, you’ll be able to taste the fruits of their labor. Tickets for food sampling are $30, while tickets for both wine and food samples are $80.

SF Beer Week
Various Locations
February 10-19

The SF Brewers Guild makes it possible for artisan breweries to invade the Bay Area for nine days of tastings, pairings, festivals and meet and greets. Beer Week kicks off on 2/10/2012 with an opening celebration in the Concourse Exhibition Center on 8th and Brannan, which means the 60 breweries that are participating will have ample space to pour out their fresh and frothy brews. For the remaining 8 days, over 400 events will take place anywhere from Pleasanton to San Jose, and many of them are already starting to sell out. Check out the extensive schedule here, and don’t hesitate to order your tickets.
