You’ve seen their name, fumbled with the pronunciation, and perhaps involuntarily began head-bobbing upon recognition of our featured artist, Yeasayer. What we learned was, enunciated, “Yay, say ‘er” is the emerging and eclectic four-piece music group. Their blend of rock, pop, folk and individualistic percussion sounds has carved out a niche of the music industry for the Brooklyn-based bloomers, and the release of their new album has plastered their name onto noteworthy festivals. Drawing a similar sound to Animal Collective or Grizzly Bear, Yeasayer separates themselves with Middle Eastern and African influences, while also experimenting with some 80’s-toned throwbacks.
Yeasayer has not only released three albums after forming in 2006, but also appeared on hit shows 90210, The Good Wife, America’s Next Top Model and the movie Pitch Perfect. The media frenzy continues on the web, as their self-proclaimed “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel”* has titled Yeasayer with Hype Machine’s “most blogged about artist in 2010.”*
Currently on the road touring the Midwest and Canada, they’ll soon hit Living Social’s Backyard Festival in New York this July, and San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music Festival this August. Keep an eye out for their synth-full performance.
