review | Cut Copy + Jessy Lanza at the Echostage

BY EVENTSEEKER STAFF

Cut Copy sold out the 6,000 capacity Echostage last Friday, showcasing their growing audience. The Australian indietronica group has come a long way since 2001, and recently released their fourth album, Free Your Mind. Though critics still label, In Ghost Colours, as their standout record, Cut Copy knows how to move a crowd. What the group lacks in concert conversation, they gain in throwing the ultimate bash. With an energizing feel and sublime aura, the dance-rock quartet powered through their hour-long set at the Echostage.

Opening for the band was Jessy Lanza, the bass queen with a brilliant sound. Vogue dubbed her one of the Best Acts of SXSW, and she cast a spell on the venue. Her deep minimalist sound pairs with breathy coos for a bewitching spectacle. The Hamilton native is on tour with Cut Copy through April, and in the words of The Guardian, her live set is “less like a gig and more like you’re entering another world entirely.”
