Cedar Street Courtyard is probably one of the reasons why Austin, Texas is known as “The Live Music Capital of the World.” Since 1995, this live music heaven has been a favorite of locals and travelers for its great atmosphere, drinks, and music. Located at 208 West 4th Street, it is one of many upscale and trendy venues in the Warehouse District. Stop by any night of the week and you’ll be guaranteed to hear some great live music and cover bands.
Cedar Street’s outdoor courtyard is their main draw. This spacious patio, sunk between Austin’s historic buildings, is surrounded by trees and houses a stage perfect for live music. This setup makes for a great, relaxing atmosphere, and the awesome acoustics in the courtyard make the live shows even better. There are also two indoor bars located on either side of the courtyard. I’ve heard exceptional reviews about the martinis, but also be sure to check out their large selection of beer and wine. The bartenders are friendly and able to cater to the large crowds that frequent the place. People of all ages (over 21 of course) can enjoy this hotspot. If you like dancing, be ready to party with a large, lively crowd in the courtyard, where you can dance and sing along to ’80s cover bands all night. If you’re looking to relax while listening to some music, there is an upper deck with another bar that overlooks the stage. No matter what you want to drink or what kind of mood you’re in, Cedar Street has it all.

Home to many big-time SXSW shows as well as great local artists, Cedar Street Courtyard is no stranger to good music and live performances. With live music all 7 nights of the week, you’re likely to encounter all types of shows. Be prepared to pay a cover, but the money is well worth it since you can watch some of the best live performances in Austin. One of the most talked about acts is the ’80s cover band, The Spazmatics, who performs there every Wednesday night. A group of four crazy looking guys in ridiculous outfits provides endless amounts of entertainment while covering plenty of ’80s favorites. According to countless reviews, these guys live up to all the hype. If you can’t make it there on a Wednesday, plenty of other cover bands perform as well as other talented musicians. People walking by on the street even stop to listen for a little, but to get the full experience, go inside.
On August 26th, musician Lee MacDougall will be performing at Cedar Street. He puts on a good show and I’m sure it will be even better in the outdoor courtyard.
