BY EVENTSEEKER STAFF

Let’s get a little funky this week. Here are eleven house music tracks that are sure to put some bounce in your step. House music has a full range of sub-genres–this little playlist includes a little mix of classic ’90s house, a hint of disco, some French-touch, a little fidget, sounds from good ‘ol Chicago, and some German-techno thrown in for good measure.

Dance music isn’t meant to be overthought, so just know that each of these eleven tracks accomplishes exactly what the producer/artist set out to do: get you to dance. If you happen to be reading this in a library or dentist office, a little head bobbing is encouraged, at the very least.

One half of Duck Sauce, Armand Van Helden has been a major fixture of the East Coast house music scene since the mid-1990s. “U Don’t Know Me” is a classic ’90s house track, and one of Van Helden’s earliest hits.

Daft Punk has two tracks on this playlist, because, well you can never get enough of Daft Punk. “Face to Face” follows Van Helden, and the track is arguably my favorite off the French duo’s second album, Discovery. When you consider Discovery also boasts the huge hits “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” “Face to Face” kind of gets lost in the, uh, shuffle. “Alive” is off Daft Punk’s first album Homework, and like “U Don’t Know Me,” is an undeniable ’90s house track.

Wedged in between those two selections from Daft Punk is probably my favorite track from Green Velvet. Real name Curtis Jones, Green Velvet is originally from Chicago, IL, and helped shape the Chicago-house music scene. Also from Chicago is Santiago & Bushido, and their remix of Kaskade (also originally from Chicago) and Deadmau5‘s “Move For Me” is just unabated fire. So much so, that I happen to prefer it over the original.

Also on this list is “Signatune” by DJ Mehdi, with a slight rework by one half of Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter. Mehdi’s fingerprints are on this list by way of his collaboration with Riton as part of Carte Blanche, and the track “Gare Du Nord.”

Crookers and Bloody Beetroots fill in a couple tracks with some glorious fidget-house club bangers in “Il Cattivo” and “I Love the Bloody Beetroots.” No list such as this can be complete without a little Boys Noize: “Jeffer,” and then his remix of Justice‘s “Phantom II,” round out the whole mix.

With Detroit-techno, Dutch-house, acid-house, and a whole lot of others, this sampling barely touches the surface of all the many house music sub-genres and the individual regions and scenes that are part of the rest of the world. If you’re digging these tracks, do yourself a favor check out the rest.
