Best described as an artistic collective, Lucent Dossier Experience pretty much encompasses everything you could expect at a music festival and a circus. The list of attractions could easily fill a stadium: acrobats, aerial artists, fire dancers, belly dancers, clowns, contortionists, bearded ladies, snake charmers, sword swallowers, and more.
The musical part of the performance consists of a surreal style with a heavy base in electronica. Just as diverse as the attractions on display, instruments include drums, bass, violins, sitars, guitars, hang drums, and others.
The company was started in 2004 by performer, artistic director, and founder of The DoLab, Dream Rockwell. Originally founded as Lucent Dossier Vaudevillians, the collective drew inspiration from the theatrics of the Vaudeville style, popular in the United States until the 1930s. The name has changed over time, however, and is now known as Lucent Dossier Experience, or more commonly just Lucent Dossier, which directly translates to “a collection of glowing light”.
The Experience has been a staple at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Lightning in a Bottle since 2006, and has compiled multiple stops at Burning Man and Red Rocks along the way. The collective will make its way up to Canada for the Shambhala Festival August 8-11, so it’s not too late to check out one of the most magical and mysterious performances around.
